Requirements & Technicality
This operation is a true recce, you will be part of a team of military personnel and veteran exploration experts.
You must understand if you are selected as part of the team we will have to adapt to each day, possibly encountering unpredictable terrain. This is an off the beaten path genuine exploration.
Throughout the build up towards departure we will have a number of mandatory training weekends; if you do not undertake a certain number you will lose your deposit and your place. This is not negotiable.
We will start on the Indonesian side of Borneo West coast. Our initial plan is to insert via small boat up one of the river systems, this is a very open adaptable plan due to flood waters, landslides and other uncontrollable factors.
From here we will be making our way through primary jungle, expect dense foliage vines, routes and swamp. We will be using hammock systems to sleep in, keeping off the ground. You will be taught how to cope with the wet dry situation of each day, this is the daily grind.
You will be put through your paces training to a high level of professionalism, going over personal kit maintenance, admin, psychological & physical alignment, navigation, basic medical training, survival training, and communications.
The first weekend introduction
Meeting the team, explaining in more detail the objectives of the expedition and helping you understand the environment you will be travelling through. This will be a relaxed day where you get the chance to ask as many questions as you like and to also get to know the others.
The objective of the introduction evening is for us to get to know each other and understand what you think of the project, how you are going to react to the physical and mental strains of such an expedition and fundamentally see if you will fit in with the team. This is our chance to see who stands out as applicants.
Our Photographer And Photography
Ascent Explorers photographer joins us on many of our UK tours and training programs to capture group images through the program duration. A selection of images are shared on social media sites such as Facebook (please inform us if you individually prefer this not to happen) Digital copies, prints are available upon request.
"Through hardship friendship is built, through friendship great things are accomplished."
This expedition/exploration does not have a strict itinerary the reason for this is because we cannot determine what terrain we will encounter, river crossings for example will slow the team down, jungle density or swamp/wet areas will effect how fast we will travel.
We will travel with all the equipment needed to operate day by day helping us to travel effectively, you will be taught how to use all the equipment used & how to navigate before departure, so when you arrive will be physically and mentally prepared for the coming days in the bush.
In a straight line West to East across Borneo you are looking at over 500 miles our objective is to recce as much of the route as we can enabling a possible clean crossing for future teams, this is uncharted terrain and you will be making history in the process.
Safety is paramount to us with all our expeditions this is no exception! our staff are veteran explorers and active military personnel this combined with the best equipment on the market we operate a well oiled machine enabling us to offer some of the most rarest expeditions.
“See you on the field “
Borneo is the third-largest island in the world and the largest island of Asia. At the geographic centre of Maritime Southeast Asia, in relation to major Indonesian islands, it is located north of Java, west of Sulawesi, and east of Sumatra.
The island is divided among three countries: Malaysia and Brunei in the north, and Indonesia to the south. Approximately 73% of the island is Indonesian territory. In the north, the East Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak make up about 26% of the island. Additionally, the Malaysian federal territory of Labuan is situated on a small island just off the coast of Borneo. The sovereign state of Brunei, located on the north coast, comprises about 1% of Borneo’s land area. Borneo is home to one of the oldest rainforests in the world.
